Ghia – Out Of Luck (feat. Adriano Prestel)

The Ghia saga unfolds once more, but in this chapter, there’s a new and unique twist. “Out of Luck” draws its roots from a previously lost track, originally composed by the group in 1985. This time around, the song has been expertly reworked by Marian Tone, with new vocals by Adriano Prestel. The outcome? Quite possibly one of the smoothest and most refreshing modern funk tunes you’ll hear this year.

But let’s rewind to the beginning of this adventure: Earlier this year, DJ Scientist stumbled upon another early Ghia composition tucked away in the depths of a master tape. It was a treasure too precious to remain unheard. Sadly, the original track couldn’t see the light of day due to sound quality and issues with the original vocals. To make matters more disappointing, no instrumental version survived. Thus, the only way to share this catchy boogie funk track with the world was to recreate it from scratch.

Marian Tone was quick to fall in love with the track and took the reins to produce this project. His previous outstanding remake of “Welche Farbe hat der Wind” (as seen in TAC-013) only fueled our excitement. This time, he joined forces with Ed Longo and his Key Elements group member, the keyboard virtuoso Jim Dunloop. The track underwent a complete transformation, re-recorded, mixed, and co-produced by Ed at his Soundrays studio. The result was a warm and original sound that met our expectations. Jim expertly recreated Lutz Boberg’s DX7 sounds, while guitarist Lucy Liebe stepped in to capture Frank Simon’s guitar parts. The drums received a fresh update from Marian Tone.

Adriano Prestel, known to some through his group projects Pho Queue and Guvvy, as well as his collaborations with DJ Friction and others, lent his songwriting and vocal talents to “Out of Luck.” His contribution solidifies his position as one of Germany’s leading soulful voices.

We genuinely hope you enjoy the outcome of this new Ghia project. If you do, keep an eye out for the full reworks 12″ EP, which – alongside another track with Adriano – will include an alternative mix of “Out of Luck,” while the instrumental version remains exclusive to this highly limited 7″.
